Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Clare Valentine and Ree Ree Davis Lead Scripps Ranch to Victory

Scripps Ranch entered their tilt with Otay Ranch on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 65-46 win over the Otay Ranch Mustangs. The Falcons have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mustangs, too.

Scripps Ranch was led to victory by Ree Ree Davis and Clare Valentine. Davis went 12 for 20 on her way to 27 points in addition to eight steals and five assists, while Valentine dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards. With that strong performance, Davis is now averaging an impressive 15.9 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Katrina Purcell, who posted eight points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Scripps Ranch was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Otay Ranch's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maleah Porch, who posted 14 points and three steals. Serenity Salmond was another key player, going 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points and seven boards.

Scripps Ranch's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Otay Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-4.

Scripps Ranch will welcome University City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Scripps Ranch is facing University City at the right time seeing as University City is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Otay Ranch, it'll be an old-fashioned rodeo when the Otay Ranch Mustangs duke it out with the Rancho Bernardo Broncos at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
