Baseball Recap: Citizens Christian Academy Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

Citizens Christian Academy lost to Robert Toombs Christian Academy back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Patriots' pitchers stepped up to hand the Crusaders a 12-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Patriots have posted against the Crusaders since March 10, 2020.

Gray McLean made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Citizens Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-0-1 (and 3-6-1 when he doesn't).

In other pitching news, Sam Ables looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Thomas Gentry was incredible, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Skyler Woods was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one RBI.

Citizens Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Robert Toombs Christian Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-6.

Citizens Christian Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Crusaders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
