Softball Recap: Stratford Academy Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Stratford Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Athens Christian, sneaking past 8-7. Stratford Academy hasn't had any issues with Athens Christian recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Reagan Ray made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in August. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hatsy Russell, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Hayden Craddock was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Stratford Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory got Stratford Academy back to even at 8-8. As for Athens Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stratford Academy will host First Presbyterian Day at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
