Baseball Recap: Claxton Takes a Loss

Claxton and Portal pushed the score to 12-9 the last time they played Portal, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Tigers fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 2-1. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost four in a row.

LOGAN PLYMEL put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

PLYMEL wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tony Davalos, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Davalos has hit this season.

Claxton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Portal, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Claxton will venture away from home to take on Emanuel County Institute at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Portal, they will head out to square off against Islands at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sharks have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
