Basketball Recap: Samantha Vasquez Key Part of a Team Effort in Blades Win

There's no place like home for East Bakersfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They put the hurt on the West Vikings with a sharp 41-21 win on Friday. The Blades have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Vikings, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Bakersfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Samantha Vasquez, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 boards. Vasquez continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashanti Collins, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 steals.

East Bakersfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

East Bakersfield's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.8 points per game. As for West, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
