Basketball Recap: Rancho Dominguez Lobos vs. Carson Colts
The Rancho Dominguez Lobos's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Carson 56-25. Rancho Dominguez was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-12.
Despite the loss, Rancho Dominguez saw an underclassman step up: Audrey Baker dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 60% of Rancho Dominguez's points, marking the 18th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was A'nye Hampton, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Rancho Dominguez struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Carson racked up 14 assists.
Carson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sydney Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten steals. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. Monica Hayden was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Rancho Dominguez has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Carson, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-10.
Rancho Dominguez will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gauchos at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Narbonne is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Carson, they will head out on the road to face off against the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. San Pedro will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
