Basketball Game Preview: St. Joseph Academy Crusaders vs. San Marcos Knights

The St. Joseph Academy Crusaders and the San Marcos Knights will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Joseph Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

St. Joseph Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They enjoyed a cozy 56-38 win over Bonita Vista on Wednesday. While the Crusaders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

St. Joseph Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Luciana Aguilar out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards. That's the most points Aguilar has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Nancy Chavez, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine assists.

St. Joseph Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, San Marcos came up short against El Capitan on Thursday and fell 46-36. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 320th, while the Vaqueros are ranked 84th).

San Marcos now has a losing record at 4-5. As for St. Joseph Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.

St. Joseph Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their match against San Marcos when the teams last played on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 50-46 win. Does St. Joseph Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will San Marcos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
