Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Soila Chadwick and Reagan Bennett Lead La Jolla to Victory

La Jolla had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They snuck past the San Diego Cavers with a 37-33 win. For the Vikings, this counts as revenge for the 43-39 victory the Cavers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2022.

Leading La Jolla to victory were Reagan Bennett and Soila Chadwick. Bennett posted 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Chadwick put up nine points and five boards. The match was Bennett's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Drew Bennett, who had six points and nine rebounds.

La Jolla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, San Diego saw an underclassman step up: freshman Gianna Woodson went 8 of 19 on her way to 21 points and five boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Woodson has scored all season. Saiyana Hughes also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

La Jolla is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for San Diego, they dropped their record down to 5-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

La Jolla has already played their next matchup, a 54-51 loss against High Tech SD on the 14th. As for San Diego, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-50 defeat against Carlsbad on the 11th.
