Basketball Recap: Madera Takes a Loss

Madera was the 36-28 winner over Sunnyside when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Madera Coyotes took a blow against the Sunnyside Wildcats on Thursday, falling 50-23.

It was another big night for Ruby Cartwright, who went 9 of 19 en route to 24 points in addition to eight steals and seven assists for Sunnyside. Cartwright is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Garcia, who posted 11 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Madera's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Sunnyside, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-12 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madera will head out to face off against Sanger West at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sunnyside, they will venture away from home to take on Justin Garza at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
