Basketball Recap: Abby Folsom's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Poly over California School for the Deaf-Riverside

Poly and California School for the Deaf-Riverside faced off in a Battle of the Bears on Thursday. The Bears took a hard 74-59 fall against the Cubs. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 349th, while the Cubs are ranked 108th).

Poly's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abby Folsom, who posted 22 points. Giuliana Hychko was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Leading California School for the Deaf-Riverside to victory were Kailea Davis-Kent and Giuliana Visco. Davis-Kent dropped a double-double with 29 points and 24 boards, while Visco almost dropped a triple-double with 23 points, nine rebounds, and 13 steals. Davis-Kent's big performance that evening made it 17 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Cristina Beltran-Giudice, who put up 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Poly and nudges their season record down to 7-6. As for California School for the Deaf-Riverside, the win keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.

Poly wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 73-38 victory against Paloma Valley on the 17th. As for California School for the Deaf-Riverside, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 45-21 win against Norte Vista on the 16th.
