Recap: Liberty Patriots vs. Legacy Longhorns

Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 11 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Liberty Patriots proved on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 69-43 margin over Legacy. The win was all the more spectacular given Liberty's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 335th in California, while Legacy is ranked 26th in Nevada).

Liberty's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Faith Curry led the charge by scoring 18 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Curry hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Kaylee Batten was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with nine rebounds.

Legacy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ajalee Williams, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Laila Gines, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.

Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. As for Legacy, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Liberty will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Garces Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on January 10, 2024. As for Legacy, they will be playing at home against Amplus Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Amplus Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on December 7th.
