Recap: Buckingham Charter Knights vs. Valley Christian Lions

The Buckingham Charter Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Valley Christian 53-14. While losing is never fun, Buckingham Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1301st, while Valley Christian is ranked 437th).

Valley Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mariah Contreras led the charge by scoring 16 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Contreras has scored at least 25% of Valley Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Janet Donkor, who scored 12 points.

Buckingham Charter's loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.8 points per game. As for Valley Christian, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

Buckingham Charter will head out on the road to face off against Faith Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Faith Christian is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
