Basketball Recap: La Jolla Country Day Torreys vs. Francis Parker Lancers
The La Jolla Country Day Torreys waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They walked away with a 61-54 win over Francis Parker. That's another feather in the cap for La Jolla Country Day, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading La Jolla Country Day to victory were Mei-ling Perry and Naomi Panganiban. Perry scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Panganiban scored 27 points along with six steals. Panganiban has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times she's played. Alea Tufaga was another key contributor, scoring two points along with three steals.
Francis Parker's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brieana Brown, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Brown is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Raagas, who scored 17 points.
Francis Parker struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as La Jolla Country Day pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
La Jolla Country Day has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. As for Francis Parker, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-8.
