Basketball Recap: Alyssa Thompson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Union

Moniteau won the last time they faced Union and things went their way on Friday too. The Moniteau Warriors enjoyed a cozy 46-30 win over the Union Knights/Damsels. The Warriors didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Moniteau to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alyssa Thompson, who posted 11 points and six steals. The dominant performance gave Thompson a new career-high in steals. Emily Matz was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Moniteau smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Union's loss came despite strong showings from Kya Wetzel and Maddy Dehart. Wetzel scored 12 points and six boards, while Dehart dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Dehart is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.

Moniteau's record now sits at 5-11. As for Union, they dropped their record down to 4-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Moniteau will host Clarion Area at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Moniteau is facing Clarion Area at the right time seeing as Clarion Area is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Union, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 51-32 loss against Brockway on the 18th.
