Baseball Recap: Gatewood Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

While Gatewood's win against Central Fellowship Christian Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Gatewood sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 victory over Central Fellowship Christian Academy on Friday. With that win, the Gators brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Jackson Love looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Connor Mitchem, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Wilson Moore was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Gatewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matches.

Gatewood is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. Central Fellowship Christian Academy dropped their record down to 1-11 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Gatewood wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-2 win against Brentwood on the 25th. As for Central Fellowship Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 14-2 defeat against Trinity Christian on the 25th.
