Basketball Game Preview: Great Oak Wolfpack vs. Chaparral Pumas

The Great Oak Wolfpack will square off against the Chaparral Pumas at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Saturday, Great Oak was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-52 to Victory Christian Academy. The Wolfpack have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Chaparral waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Bulldogs 59-39. The Pumas have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 20 points or more this season.

Chaparral found their leader in sophomore Zetta Faasua, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 boards. The matchup was Faasua's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Abby Costello was another key player, going 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points and three steals.

Chaparral smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Great Oak, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.

Great Oak skirted past Chaparral 53-50 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Will Great Oak repeat their success, or does Chaparral have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
