Basketball Recap: St. Joseph Academy Takes Down Mira Mesa in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, St. Joseph Academy rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They managed a 44-40 win over the Mira Mesa Marauders. That's more bragging rights for the Crusaders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

St. Joseph Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luciana Aguilar, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. St. Joseph Academy is 9-1 when Aguilar posts ten or more boards, but 5-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nancy Chavez, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

St. Joseph Academy now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Mira Mesa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-12.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph Academy is taking a road trip to face off against Imperial at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Imperial's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home while St. Joseph Academy has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. Mira Mesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
