It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Pojoaque Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 32-31 photo finish over the Robertson Cardinals. For the Elks/Elkettes, this counts as revenge for the 51-0 victory the Cardinals walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Joshua Gonzales had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 142 yards and two scores on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 174 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (132.2). Pojoaque Valley's leading receiver Joaquin Baca was Gonzales' top target yet again, picking up 162 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pojoaque Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 259 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 189 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Robertson had strong showings from Andres Sanchez, who gained 148 total yards and two touchdowns, and Nathan Gonzales, who rushed for 89 yards and one TD. Elijah Ortiz got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Pojoaque Valley now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Robertson, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2.
