Basketball Recap: Branham Sets Scoring Season-High Against Leland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Branham). They walked away with a 67-55 win over the Leland Chargers on Friday. Given the Bruins' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while the Chargers are ranked 789th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Leland lost, don't look at Saanvi Gunukula. Despite the final result, she posted 18 points and three steals. Gunukula has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Venice Lu was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.

Branham's victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Leland, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Branham will take on Prospect at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Leland, they will face off against Willow Glen at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Willow Glen is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season.
