Softball Recap: Skyline Comes Up Short

Skyline extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 27 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-11. They came up short against the Thornton Trojans, falling 21-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, with their most recent defeat being a 17-0 loss last Wednesday.

As for Thornton, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-2-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.9 runs over those games.

For Thornton's part, Mya Grady made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Grady has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makayla Florez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Sophia Ornelas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Skyline does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Thornton, they will host Conifer at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
