Basketball Game Preview: Dublin Gaels vs. Monte Vista Mustangs

The Dublin Gaels will square off against the Monte Vista Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Dublin is headed into Friday's contest hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They took a blow against Carondelet on Tuesday, falling 80-35. The Gaels were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-19.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista was able to grind out a solid win over Foothill on Tuesday, taking the game 59-46. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Monte Vista's win came from a few key players Dublin will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kennedy Whyte, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in steals (five). Another player making a difference was Naliyah Sefidi, who posted 19 points in addition to seven assists and six steals.

Monte Vista was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Monte Vista's victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-11. As for Dublin, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.

Dublin and Monte Vista were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but Dublin came up empty-handed after a 54-53 defeat. Can Dublin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
