20 for 20: Top high school softball players to watch from the Class of 2020

May and Coleman are part of a talented Class of 2020 that includes state record holders, three-time All-Americans, returning Gatorade Players of the Year and a lot more.

UTIL — Tehya Bird, Cloverdale (Calif.)
Resume: Here is a crazy stat: Bird had more homers (13) than outs (12) in 2019. The two-time MaxPreps All-American has a .720 batting average so far in high school. She also has 38 home runs and won 60 of 68 games as a varsity player.
College: Oregon

P — Raegan Breedlove, Central Valley (Shasta Lake, Calif.)
Resume: Breedlove has stuck out 813 batters in her career, and she still has a season to go for the Falcons. It wouldn't be an over statement to say she has been basically unhittable with a career 0.42 ERA. The Oregon signee also has a career .481 batting average with 26 home runs.
College: Oregon

IF — Erin Coffel, Bremen (Ind.)
Resume: The Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year batted .633, drove in 52 runs, hit 19 home runs, and had a .733 on-base percentage. Coffel and Bremen returns as state Division 2 state champions.
College: Kentucky

IF — Jayda Coleman, The Colony (Texas)
Resume: Batted a whopping .717 in 157 plate appearances as a junior. She walked 32 times, hit 10 home runs and stole 72 bases. Coleman is a three-time MaxPreps All-American.
College: Oklahoma
C — Jennifer Cummings, Redmond (Wash.)
Resume: The All-State player is back after an amazing 2019 season. She hit .575 with a .704 on-base percentage and drove in 49 runs. She also threw out nine would-be base stealers.
College: Washington

IF — Bailey Dowling, St. Joseph-Ogden (St. Joseph, Ill.)
Resume: Enters her senior season as the state career home run leader with 65. In 2019, she batted .674 and blasted 22 home runs. The three-time MaxPreps All-American had an outstanding .760 on-base percentage.
College: Alabama

UTIL — Aynslie Furbush, Winter Springs (Fla.)
Resume: Led the Bears to the 8A title, a perfect 31-0 record and No. 3 finish overall in the country. The Ole Miss signee hit 12 home runs and was 16-0 as a pitcher.
College: Ole Miss



IF — Karina Gaskins, Donovan Catholic (Toms River, N.J.)
Resume: NJ.Com's Player of the Year and Gatorade award winner was huge reason the Griffins finished as the state's top team in 2019. Gaskins batted .642, drove in 62 and hit 19 home runs.
College: Notre Dame

IF — Avery Goelz, Lakewood Ranch (Bradenton, Fla.)
Resume: Had 16 games with two or more hits, and hit in 29 of 31 games. The Florida star batted .543 and was named a MaxPreps All-American for a third time.
College: Florida

P — Alissa Humphrey, Gainesville (Fla.)
Resume: The Jacksonville University signee went 19-5 in 2019. Although she had five losses in the circle, her ERA was 0.29. Four of her five losses were by one run or less and she tossed 12 shutouts during her junior year.
College: Jacksonville

P — Nicole May, Foothill (Pleasanton, Calif.)
Resume: Returns after leading Falcons to a 28-0 record last season. She went 24-0 with14 shutouts, an 0.32 ERA and 246 strikeouts in 151 innings last year. The MaxPreps All-American also batted .463.
College: Oklahoma

OF — Caitlynn Neal, Bradshaw Mountain (Prescott Valley, Ariz.)
Resume: A member of the 2019 USA U17 Women's National Team. She did it all for the Bears batting .641 with 37 extra base hits. She also went 20-1 as a pitcher with 11 shutouts and 0.66 ERA
College: Nebraska

IF — Aaliyah Ortiz, Southwest (San Antonio, Texas)
Resume: Ortiz is hoping 2020 pitchers will throw to her. She walked 50 times and still hit .667 with 22 home runs while accounting for 143 runs.
College: McNeese State



P — Madison Penta, Bohemia Manor (Chesapeake City, Md.)
Resume: A two-time MaxPreps All-American, state Gatorade award winner for softball and a three-time all-state pick. She stuck out 19 and threw a no hitter in the 2019 1A state championship game.
College: Auburn

P — Gabi Salo, Escanaba (Mich.)
Resume: Pitched Escanaba to a second straight D2 state title. She went 26-2 in the circle and struck out 351 with an 0.26 ERA. The 2019 Miss Michigan Softball Player also hit .343 for the Eskymos.
College: Wisconsin

IF — Carlie Scupin, Tucson High Magnet School (Tucson, Ariz.)
Resume: Returns as the 2019 state Gatorade softball winner should help the Badgers make a run at a 2020 title. The Arizona commit hit 17 home runs and hit .683 with a 1.730 slugging percentage.
College: Arizona

OF — Karli Spaid, Lane Tech (Chicago)
Resume: Long balls are her specialty as Spaid had a four-game streak where she clubbed a home run. She hit multiple home runs in seven games, including one where she hit three. The All-State player finished up with 25 total bombs.
College: Miami

IF — Allison Smith, Champion (Warren, Ohio)
Resume: Led the Golden Flashes to a third-straight state title in 2019. The two-time MaxPreps All-American enters her senior campaign with an Ohio state record with 51 career home runs. Smith also went 16-0 in the circle.
College: Ohio State

P — Ryleigh White, Immaculate Heart Academy (Washington Township, N.J.)
Resume: The 6-foot-1 Texas commit went 20-2 overall in 2019 in the circle. She struck out 277 batters and allowed 12 earned runs in 136 innings. White also hit .410 with nine home runs.
College: Texas



P — Sarah Willis, Norco (Calif.)
Resume: Arguably the top returning pitcher on one of the country's best high school teams. She went 22-1 with an 0.82 ERA and struck out 196 in 153 innings in 2019. The two-time MaxPreps All-American also batted .350.
College: Washington
