Basketball Game Preview: Sayre Redskins vs. Mansfield Tigers

Sayre hasn't had much luck against Mansfield recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Sayre Redskins will welcome the Mansfield Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Sayre is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Tuesday. They were beaten by Troy 75-20. The Redskins were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-14.

The losing side was boosted by Rylee Lantz, who went 6 of 7 en route to 12 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Meanwhile, Mansfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Northeast Bradford, falling 75-51. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while the Panthers are ranked 155th).

Sayre's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Mansfield, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-7.

Sayre came up short against Mansfield in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 32-24. Can Sayre avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
