Baseball Recap: Valwood Makes It Six in a Row at Home

Valwood proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by seven) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Deerfield-Windsor Knights 7-6. This was a revenge game for the Valiants: when they faced off against the Knights on Tuesday, they had to take a 5-1 loss.

Colson Smith made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Triston White was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February.

Valwood pushed their record up to 14-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Deerfield-Windsor, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6-1.

Looking ahead, Valwood is taking a road trip to square off against Fullington Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Deerfield-Windsor, they will be playing at home against Southwest Georgia Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
