Preview: Olympian Eagles vs. Bonita Vista Barons
Olympian is 0-10 against Bonita Vista since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Olympian Eagles will look to defend their home court against the Bonita Vista Barons at 6:30 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Olympian waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 46-36 win over Mater Dei Catholic.
It was another big night for Asia Darcuiel, who scored 22 points along with nine steals and six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Olympian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Agpaoa, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Bonita Vista posted their biggest win since November 25, 2023 on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Eastlake 77-29 at home. Given Bonita Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Eastlake is ranked 517th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Olympian is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Bonita Vista, they pushed their record up to 9-11 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Olympian might still be hurting after the 72-46 loss they got from Bonita Vista in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Olympian was down 39-12.
