Basketball Recap: La Jolla Country Day Piles Up the Points Against Silverado

La Jolla Country Day put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past the Silverado Hawks, posting an 81-28 win.

La Jolla Country Day's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Safiyah Sugapong led the charge by going 8-for-15 to rack up 20 points along with eight assists and four steals. Those eight assists gave Sugapong a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mahlia Washington, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 14 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

La Jolla Country Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alohilani Atimua, who posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Romeja Craig, who had six points and seven boards.

La Jolla Country Day's record is now 3-0. As for Silverado, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, La Jolla Country Day will take on San Diego in a tournament on Wednesday. As for Silverado, they are taking a road trip to face off against Fontana at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
