Baseball Recap: Westwood Wins Going Away Against Brookwood

Westwood put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Monday. Everything went their way against the Brookwood Warriors as they made off with a 9-0 win. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 3-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Liam Rogers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Karson Barwick was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Westwood's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Sam Summerlin was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Westwood is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Brookwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.

Westwood will venture away from home to square off against Southland Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brookwood will be paying especially close attention to the Wildcats' game: after the Wildcats face off against Georgia Christian, they'll take on Brookwood again at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
