Texas high school football: State passing, rushing and receiving yardage leaders

Hunter McCoy, Kiefer Sibley and Jaydon Smith lead offensive yardage categories.

According to statistics submitted to MaxPreps, Hunter McCoy of First Baptist (Dallas) leads Texas high school football in passing yardage with 2,313 during a 7-0 start for the Saints. Last weekend, the senior signal caller threw for 362 yards and six touchdowns in a 42-0 win over Sacred Heart (Muenster).

McCoy, who has thrown for over 5,100 yards and 61 touchdowns during his career, has completed 120 of 167 passes for 37 touchdowns. He threw for 508 yards and seven scores in a 55-13 season-opening win over Brazos Christian.

The state's top runner is Kiefer Sibley of Connally (Waco), who has run for 1,604 yards during a 4-3 start for the Cadets. The 5-10 senior ran 25 times for 286 yards and three scores during a 35-29 win over Gatesville last weekend.

Sibley, who could eclipse 4,000 career yards this weekend, has scored 21 times. He ran for a season-high 391 yards with five TDs in a 59-38 win over C.H. Yoe.

Jaydon Smith of Ingleside is the leading receiver with 1,132 yards. His 23 touchdown catches have helped the Mustangs start 7-0. Against Carrizo Springs in September, Smith caught six passes for 209 yards and five scores.
