Basketball Recap: Mount Miguel Takes a Loss

Mount Miguel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Morse Tigers and fell 66-24. The Matadors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2021.

Despite the loss, Mount Miguel still got an impressive performance from Laylah Castro, who posted 15 points. That was a full 62.5% of Mount Miguel's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Morse to victory were Yasmin Zufri and Iyana (Lexi) Warren. Zufri put up 22 points, while Warren had 22 points. Another player making a difference was Belinda Diaz, who earned 14 points.

Mount Miguel's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Morse, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Mount Miguel wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Chula Vista on the 30th. As for Morse, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-42 win against Olympian on the 30th.
