Basketball Recap: Northeastern Comes Up Short

After flying high against Columbia on Friday, Northeastern came back down to earth. The Northeastern Bobcats were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 39-38 to the Mechanicsburg Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 456th, while the Wildcats are ranked 55th).

Loss or not, Northeastern got some senior leadership from Nylah Davis and Lauralye Kennedy. Davis posted 16 points, while Kennedy put up ten points.

Northeastern has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season. As for Mechanicsburg, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northeastern will venture away from home to take on Susquehannock at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Susquehannock will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Northeastern surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mechanicsburg, they will head out on the road to face off against Lower Dauphin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mechanicsburg's defense has only allowed 29.3 points per game this season, so Lower Dauphin's offense will have their work cut out for them.
