Football Game Preview: May River Sharks vs. Georgetown Bulldogs

After each having a week off, the May River Sharks and the Georgetown Bulldogs will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Georgetown took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on May River, who comes in off a win.

Two weeks ago, May River beat Brookland-Cayce 36-29. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sharks.

May River's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sean Mitchell, who rushed for 164 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Mitchell is also crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Andrew Johnson was another key back, rushing for 89 yards and two TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: May River was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 394 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Meanwhile, Georgetown was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 27-21 heartbreaker at the hands of Carvers Bay.

May River's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Georgetown, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
