Basketball Recap: Coolidge's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Monday

On Monday, the Coolidge Bears were able to grind out a solid win over The Gregory School Hawks, taking the game 53-45. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Hawks are ranked 201st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Preston Dees continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. He has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more rebounds the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Dees, who posted five points and ten boards.

Coolidge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, The Gregory School still got an impressive performance from Ben Head, who went 7 for 15 en route to 19 points and five rebounds. Head also posted a block, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carson Namanny, who put up five points.

Coolidge's record now sits at 18-5. As for The Gregory School, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-8 record.

Coolidge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-43 victory against Seton Catholic on the 23rd. The Gregory School has also already played their next game, a 61-25 win against Patagonia on the 21st.
