Softball Recap: Wilcox County's Winning Streak Snapped at Nine Games

After a string of nine wins, Wilcox County's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They lost 11-5 to the West Laurens Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Patriots have suffered since October 9, 2024.

Maeson Owens made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Zariah Martin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Wilcox County's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for West Laurens, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilcox County will face off against Pierce County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for West Laurens, they will challenge Georgia Military College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.04 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
