The Polk County Slammers are taking a road trip to take on the Kearney Catholic Stars at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with seven losses in a row, Polk County turned things around against Pierce on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Bluejays 12-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Slammers have posted against the Bluejays since September 3, 2022.

Polk County got a massive performance out of Shyenne Krol, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Krol a new career-high. Mady Berggren was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Polk County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Kearney Catholic came out on top against Southern Valley/Alma on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run first inning. The Stars blew past Southern Valley/Alma 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Stars, who have now won 20 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Raegan Ruyle made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Kearney Catholic let Maya Rahmann and Kynlee Ruyle run wild. Rahmann went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Ruyle went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Green, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 5-20. As for Kearney Catholic, their record is now 23-5.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Polk County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Kearney Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .477. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Polk County suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Kearney Catholic when the teams last played on Saturday. Can the Slammers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
