Softball Recap: Sand Creek Wins Going Away Against Woodland Park

Sand Creek barely beat Woodland Park the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Scorpions put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 12-3 win on Monday. Considering the Scorpions have won six games by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Abigail Knapp was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Knapp was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lyla Almeida was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August. Nazariah Sweat was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Sand Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.4.

Sand Creek's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14. As for Woodland Park, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Sand Creek will square off against Mitchell at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Woodland Park, they will take on Canon City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
