Basketball Recap: Topanga Tusantoso's Big Game Can't Quite Lead University City over Morse

University City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 42-36 heartbreaker at the hands of the Morse Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-27 back in January.

University City's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Topanga Tusantoso, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Tusantoso also posted three blocks, which is notable because University City is 3-1 when she posts at least three blocks, but 8-13 otherwise. Kami Demara was another key player, putting up seven points along with six boards and five steals.

Morse's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Victoria Garingo, who posted nine points. Another player making a difference was Emily Valenica, who scored eight points.

University City's defeat dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Morse, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

University City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 40-29 loss against Scripps Ranch on the 7th. As for Morse, they have also already played their next contest, a 39-28 defeat against Cathedral Catholic on the 7th.
