Preview: Burroughs Bears vs. Holy Martyrs Armenian Armens

The Burroughs Bears just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Holy Martyrs Armenian Armens at 4:00 p.m. on December 22nd. Burroughs is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.

Burroughs has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Hoover 50-2 on the road. Given Burroughs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Hoover is ranked 1187th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Burroughs found their leader in underclassman Elizabeth Amoroso, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five steals. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Valentina Morales, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three blocks.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 56-19, which was the final score in Holy Martyrs Armenian's tilt against La Salle on Thursday. Holy Martyrs Armenian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-3.

Burroughs' win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Holy Martyrs Armenian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Burroughs strolled past Holy Martyrs Armenian in their previous meeting back in January of 2022 by a score of 63-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Burroughs since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
