Softball Recap: Lakeview Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lakeview ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays 4-3. This was payback for the Vikings, who suffered a 1-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Cali Bentz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Glendy, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

Lakeview pushed their record up to 5-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ashland-Greenwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Lakeview will venture away from home to challenge Tekamah-Herman at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Ashland-Greenwood, they will host Gross Catholic at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
