Softball Recap: St. Michael the Archangel Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for St. Michael the Archangel's offense. They fell 5-0 to the Lafayette County Huskers on Friday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Guardians were not able to get on the board.

Sophie Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Michael the Archangel saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eva Franke, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Franke has hit this season.

This is the second loss in a row for St. Michael the Archangel and nudges their season record down to 8-4. As for Lafayette County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Michael the Archangel will challenge Warrensburg at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. As for Lafayette County, they will venture away from home to face off against Holden at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
