Football Recap: Lawrence Falls Despite Big Games from Tahj Edwards and Joey Dooley

It was a proper cat-fight when Lawrence faced off against Mill Valley on Friday. The Lions lost 42-21 to the Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Jaguars are ranked second).

Joey Dooley and Tahj Edwards certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Dooley rushed for 141 yards and one TD on only 13 carries, while Edwards rushed for 115 yards and a pair of scores. With that strong performance, Edwards is now averaging an impressive 100.5 rushing yards per game.

Max Piva was his usual excellent self, rushing for 237 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry for Mill Valley. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Piva a new career-high. Blake Jay was in the mix too, providing Mill Valley with two TDs.

Lawrence is on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4. As for Mill Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lawrence will face off against rival Shawnee Mission East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Mill Valley is set to challenge their familiar foe Shawnee Mission Northwest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
