Soccer Game Preview: Porterville vs. Redwood

Porterville is 0-6 against Redwood since January of 2023 but things could change on Friday. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rangers at 6:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.

Redwood better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Porterville's game on Wednesday is any indication, that's when Porterville really gets things going. The Panthers never let Mt. Whitney get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for Porterville considering their one-goal performance the match before.

Meanwhile, Redwood came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2.8 goals), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Miners 4-1. Given Redwood's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked seventh, while El Diamante are ranked 171st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Avery Yagle and Graycie Serpa scored all four of Redwood's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 26 goals.

Porterville's win bumped their record up to 9-5-3. As for Redwood, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1-1.

Porterville might still be hurting after the 5-0 loss they got from Redwood in their previous meeting back in January of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
