Baseball Recap: Western Reserve Triumphs

The Western Reserve Blue Devils sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Saints on Saturday.

Western Reserve got a great performance from Jensen Ziegler as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Ziegler has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. Cole Dotson picked up the save, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Western Reserve's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Hartzell, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Thomas Criswell was another, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Western Reserve has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Tuscarawas Central Catholic, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

Western Reserve wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 9-4 victory against Springfield on the 4th. As for Tuscarawas Central Catholic, they have also already played their next game, an 11-1 defeat against Newcomerstown on the 4th.
