Softball Recap: Ord Takes a Loss

Ord had lost 17 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-8 to make it 18. They lost 10-2 to the O'Neill Eagles. That's two games in a row now that the Chanticleers have lost by exactly eight runs.

Ord saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elle Jess, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

As for O'Neill, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On O'Neill's side, the team relied heavily on Tenzlie Sorenson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Sorenson a new career-high. Bristol Scott also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Ord will head out on the road to face off against Lexington at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Minutemen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.33 runs per game on average), something the Chanticleers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for O'Neill, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Pierce on the 4th.
