Football Game Preview: Fort Sumner/House vs. Escalante Lobos

Fort Sumner/House are taking a road trip to face off against the Escalante Lobos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Fort Sumner/House sitting on seven straight victories and Escalante on four.

Fort Sumner/House's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Cloudcroft 52-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Fort Sumner/House's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico football rankings (they are ranked third, while Cloudcroft is ranked 27th).

Meanwhile, Escalante humbled Clayton with a 50-0 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Lobos just coasted through the last quarter.

Fort Sumner/House better keep an eye on Jacoby Valdez. He was instrumental in Escalante's win, rushing for 192 yards and one touchdown while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. Those 192 rushing yards gave Valdez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Julio Lujan, who rushed for 57 yards and a pair of TDs.

Escalante was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 414 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 182 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.

Fort Sumner/House's record is now 7-0. As for Escalante, their record now sits at 7-2.

Everything came up roses for Fort Sumner/House against Escalante in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 58-6 win. Does Fort Sumner/House have another victory up their sleeve, or will Escalante turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
