Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
The Kennedy Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Cleveland Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Kennedy will be strutting in after a win while Cleveland will be coming in after a defeat.
Two weeks ago, Kennedy beat Taft 45-35. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Kennedy.
Kennedy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leilani Richards, who scored 10 points. Magdalena Paloma was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Meanwhile, Cleveland had to suffer through a rough 75-34 loss at the hands of St. Mary's Academy. Cleveland was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-11.
Despite the loss, Cleveland got a solid performance out of Valerie Anzora, who scored 14 points along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Anzora is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Calderon, who scored 6 points.
Kennedy now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Cleveland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Kennedy haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 0 turnovers per game. However, it's not like Cleveland struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 0 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
