Preview: Mt. Shasta Bears vs. Weed Cougars

The Mt. Shasta Bears will be playing at home against the Weed Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Shasta has now lost 18 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 2.

On Tuesday, Mt. Shasta had to suffer through a rough 57-9 loss at the hands of Modoc. Mt. Shasta was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-5.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Weed's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 41-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Trinity. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Weed has scored all season.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Alayja Oliver, who scored seven points along with two steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Renaissance Johnson was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 17 rebounds.

Mt. Shasta dropped their record down to 1-22 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.1 points per game. As for Weed, their loss dropped their record down to 21-5.

Mt. Shasta took a serious blow against Weed when the teams last played back in January, falling 71-22. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mt. Shasta was down 42-12.
