Basketball Recap: Patterson Drops Highest Score of Season Against Sierra

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Patterson). They snuck past the Sierra Timberwolves with a 63-57 win on Thursday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while the Timberwolves are ranked 520th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Patterson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alyse Lomeli out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. Lomeli has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played. Kailani Ortiz was another key player, going 7 of 13 on her way to 18 points along with five boards and five steals.

Patterson was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sierra only racked up eight assists.

Sierra lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Emalina Latu, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Everett, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 11 points in addition to six boards and five blocks.

Patterson pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.4 points per game. As for Sierra, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.

Patterson will host Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sierra, they will head out to square off against Oakdale at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
