Football Recap: Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Comes Up Short Despite Curtis Brown's Big Defensive Game + How To Watch

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 3-6. They lost 45-19 to the Union Academy Cardinals. The Gryphons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2019.

Even if they lost, Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. In that department, Curtis Brown was the leader with two.

As for Union Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Union Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nico Mendoza, who threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in one rushing score. Those 252 passing yards gave Mendoza a new career-high. 95 of Mendoza's passing yards were hauled in by Jaequan Timmons, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 48-12 win against Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy on the 31st. As for Union Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 55-17 defeat against North Stanly on the 31st.
