Baseball Recap: Wesclin Triumphs

Wesclin proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 20) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Christ Our Rock Lutheran Stallions 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since April 14th.

Kennett Spalding was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Wesclin is 5-2 when Spalding posts two or more runs, but 5-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, Lucas Harriss was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ayden Peterson, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Wesclin is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Christ Our Rock Lutheran, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wesclin will take on Centralia at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Christ Our Rock Lutheran, they will square off against Ramsey at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
