Softball Recap: Warrensburg Comes Up Short

Warrensburg extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-8. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the St. Michael the Archangel Guardians. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by just one run.

As for St. Michael the Archangel, they pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For St. Michael the Archangel's part, Sophie Young made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Young was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lyla Ventimiglia, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Samantha Dorsch was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Warrensburg will challenge Summit Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for St. Michael the Archangel, they will host Lafayette County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
